Launch
(ages 17+)

What is Launch?

The Launch program is designed to put you on the mission field, whatever your situation might be. We have identified key areas around the world that desperately need short term missionary help, and we want you to fill one of those needs. Lengths of service can range from 1 or 2 months to 2 years. You choose which opportunity and time frame is right for you. We'll help you get there.

In the past, students have gone to Europe to help run summer camps, young adults have gone to Africa to see if full-time missions might be for them, and adults and retirees have gone to Asia to teach English in schools. People have preached, taught, built buildings, run programs, cooked, cleaned, and designed websites--all just a few examples of the hundreds of ways Launch has helped normal people use their skills for God's glory on the mission field.

So, are you interested in missions but not sure how your abilities can be used? Do you have some time that you would like to devote to missions work? Are you interested in (but still unsure about) full-time missions? Launch could be just what you are looking for.

Read what one junior counselor had to say about the time at summer camp:

"I would just like to thank you for allowing me to be a Junior Counselor at the Word of Life E-Camp in Busan. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I enjoyed interacting with the campers a lot and witnessing their fire and love for God grow throughout the camp. The personal relationships I developed with the girls in my cabin were wonderful. It was nice being able to encourage their walk with Christ, pray for them, listen to their concerns/burderns and simply having fun hanging out with them. Their "hunger" to know more about Christ grew day by day and that was such a blessing to witness. This camp really helped me step out of my comfort zone and humble myself. I've had trouble getting to know people and pushing my shyness away and this camp definately helped that aspect of my life. I grew more comfortable with myself and developed incredible relationships with amazing individuals (campers and staff members). I was blessed by this camp in many ways. I would love to share all of them but that would take a long time :) I would say the most significant thing I took away from this experience is surrendering my all to Christ. I was encouraged greatly to submit every single aspect of my life to God. His plans for me are extravagantly better than any plan I could ever come up with. This experience also helped me decide to plan on going to a bible college for a year and go into ministry. So again, thank you SO MUCH for allowing me to come. I was incredibly blessed! I hope to come again next summer."
God Bless,
JC (junior counselor)

Type: 1 Year Intern

Budget Estimate: $750/month + airfare (includes: food, housing, transportation, stipend, insurance & administrative cost)

Website: Hungary Internship Program

  • Housekeeping
  • Administrative tasks
  • Admissions Counselors in the Bible School
  • Help in student life department
  • Maintenance
  • Landscaping
  • Transportation
  • Ministry Teams of any and all types
  • drama team opportunities
  • ...and many other opportunities see our website for more details

Ongoing Ministry: Interns will be involved in our ministry here on our campus and throughout Hungary.

Strategic Need: Our internship program provides the backbone for our ministry. They fill needs we simply cannot fill without them.

Cultural Background: We offer Hungarian classes to our students and interns. Everything done here is in both English and Hungarian (with a little bit of German too).

Cultural Expectations: To blend in with a variety of cultures. We have students and staff from all over the world.

Type: 1 year Intern/Teacher

Age: 18+

Dates: February - December

Budget Estimate: $900/month + airfare (includes: food, housing, transportation, stipend, insurance & administrative cost)

Website: Christian Missionary School

Details: School will begin during the first to second week of March. Arriving early gives each teacher the time necessary to better prepare him/herself for their time in the classroom. Our school day runs from 7:30 (staff prayer time) to 12:00 noon, 5 days a week. In addition to classroom responsibilities, teachers help in the lunchroom in their rotation, from 12:00 noon until about 12:45. The afternoons are free except if the teacher wishes to take Spanish language classes at the bilingual extension of the WOL Bible Institute. Teachers are not required to, but are encouraged to become involved in a local church ministry on the weekends. Otherwise, they will participate in an on-campus Sunday morning service. Learning to be flexible is an important part of serving in our school here.

Education: High School only, if you wish to teach ESL (English as a Second Language). We desire teacher certification for our high school program, however, some college and strengths in particular academic areas would be an absolute minimum to teach high school.

Types of ministry service: teaching and mentoring, music, sports, medical needs, administrative support, maintenance, etc.

Tourism: As a teacher in our school, you are not only free to explore, but encouraged to visit as many places in Argentina as the schedule allows. When given the opportunity, you can travel to Uruguay, Chile, or places like Iguazu Falls, Pichi Traful, Mendoza, and more. Commercial bus service in Argentina is second to none. National airfare is also available, but at a higher cost. You are advised to build into your time here, sufficient spending money to see the sights. It is possible to take a bus to Buenos Aires round-trip for 30 pesos. Eat in some really fine restaurants for 15 to 50 pesos. You can have a nice day in Buenos Aires for about 100 pesos.

Religious Background: Argentina is 95% Catholic. Unlike some countries in Europe, you find Argentines by and large, practicing their religion. You see this in their educational institutions too. They are, however, open to the Gospel. Of our student population at ECM (Spanish initials for CMS), about 60% of our student body is from the adjacent town of Monte. Most of them come from Catholic homes. They know what we stand for, see the quality of the education that we provide, and they send their kids to us!

Cultural Background: Other religions are a part of the culture here also. For example, the Mormon Temple here is the second largest structure in the world (second only to Salt Lake City). Needless to say, you see many pairs of black suited young men walking the streets here. We also see Pentecostals, Jehovah Witnesses, etc. During WWII there was a mass migration of Jews to Argentina, as well as Germans. Argentina is truly a melting pot of world cultures and world religions. As you walk the streets of Buenos Aires or drive the countryside, though, you will be hard pressed to say that you are outside the USA.

Cultural Expectations: Argentines are outgoing, friendly people so expect to do lots of things together and use whatever Spanish you learn along the way.

Location Information: The weather is similar to the northern half of Florida. We have citrus fruit and palm trees here too.

Health Considerations: Do not drink water that comes out of the tap here. Drink bottled water only. Argentina is NOT a third world country, though some areas are poor. Special shots are not required to come here. Health care is affordable and very accessible, especially on campus at Palabra de Vida, where we have full-time doctors on staff at our medical clinic.

The School of Youth Ministry in English (SYME) is a great opportunity for any native English speaker to pursue.

  • Can you speak English?
  • Are you interested in foreign culture?
  • Do you love Jesus?

If you answered "yes" to those three questions, then you're a prime candidate for this TESL ministry in South Korea, Japan, or Taiwan.

Visit wolsyme.com to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
