Our missionaries are normal people from all walks of life who have dedicated their lives to serving and following Jesus wherever He calls them. Want to meet them? Check out our Missionary Directory.
We are Gary and Frankie Lawhorne, Word of Life Local Church Missionaries to South Carolina. Our goal is to help local churches develop vibrant youth ministries through evangelism, discipleship and leadership training. We are passionate about seeing adults in the local church becoming more effective in reaching and discipling young people to a Biblical Worldview. We believe that students need godly examples to follow, and we are committed to the principles of 2 Timothy 2:2 and Philippians 3:17.
I,Gary, grew up in an alcoholic stepfather home. It was very difficult. At the age of 20 a friend shared the Gospel and I went to church with him and trusted Christ in March 1974. I met my future wife at Liberty College and we married in December 1976. While at Liberty College I was asked to run a Word of Life Club on Monday night, and the Word of Life Club grew and gave me a taste of ministry. We eventually moved to a smaller church and I met the Virginia Word of Life Missionary, Ralph Green. We started Word of Life and I grew spiritually under his leadership. Ralph asked me to consider becoming a Word of Life Missionary in 1987 and I surrender to the call in 1989. Word of Life accepted us in June 1989 and we moved to South Carolina in August 1990 to start Word of Life. We have been in Word of Life for over 25 years. It has be a privilege.
Acts 20:24King James Version (KJV) Acts 20:24, But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
