It was at a time when I was lost that love found me. My father passed away when I was nine, leaving my five siblings and I with a stay-home mother. We were hopeless. Life seemed to have stopped then, and the world begun to cave in on us. The message of salvation never made sense. However, three years later, my big brother shared the gospel with me and I gave my life to Christ.
12 years ago, I made a decision that not many young people would after high school. I went to Bible school. Many thought I was giving my life away to foolishness; spending a year at bible school before doing my undergraduate. My peers thought I was insane for choosing Bible school over Law school (not that I wanted to go to law school anyway). One man walked with me through this journey that changed my life forever, my big brother the late Dr. Gerald K. Sseruwagi.
The choice I made changed my life immensely. My life begun to be grounded in the Word and not the world. I learned to trust in God for the future and not the people around me. One of the most amazing things that happened at Bible school was a clear picture of who God is. I started to see Him as a father and not a ruler up on the throne waiting to punish me for my wrong. The message of love was louder than that of hell and death.
Christianity was then a lifestyle lived out of love for my maker and not out of fear. My most heart-changing lessons were not at university but at Bible school. Today, I serve with an organization, (like many I have served with) that has Christ at the center. I know it’s not a coincidence but a plan that God was preparing me for in my teenage years.
At the end of the day, our dreams fail unless they are buried in His. For this is the reality; ‘Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.’ Eph 3:20. Would you give Him a year of life and let Him use it?
Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
