Ministry Description

Here at Word of Life Korea, or WOLKO, I'm a part of our SYME Program (School of Youth Ministry in English) where I'm an English teacher and Bible Club member! Here at our ministry center we walk alongside the students in discipleship and learning, using the Bible to teach English and minister to the youth of South Korea. We are also partnered with several Christian schools around the province of Gyeonggi where we go out several times a week to do games, skits, music, and a message with the students there. We organize summer and winter camps every year and have begun local outreach efforts with the local public school students in our town of Songtan! There are many opportunities for ministry here in Korea, and that's not even including the WOLBI campus on Jeju Island; the youth of South Korea are largely unreached, and it's such a blessing to be able to serve them where we can. We're always praying for new opportunities to do so!

About Sophia

Word of Life Ministries has been a part of my life through my whole Christian walk; saved at 14 at the WOL Island summer camp, I understood who Jesus truly was and never looked back. From attending camp every year to working as staff, I then attended the Word of Life Bible Institute in New York for 2 years from 2018-2020. There I began to consider the CCI program (spoiler: the one I'm doing now) and my desire to serve began growing even more. It was a long process trying to decide which direction to take, and after praying about it over the course of my time at WOLBI, I finally chose to do the Cross Cultural Internship and felt complete peace with the decision! My original field being Québec, there were many roadblocks once COVID happened and I was unable to get to my field for over a year. After every attempt was made and hope seemed to be lost, God told me to take a step back and let Him close the doors to Québec - and immediately the doors to South Korea flew wide open. My passion for Korea was already there and burning, and He knew; the chance to be serving here is all thanks to God's immense grace and sovereignty. Every day I remain amazed at His hand over my life, and I know that He has me exactly where I'm supposed to be.
