Ministry Description

Summary

English4Life is a residential English-immersion program for post-high school students. The school year is comprised of three, 8-week terms, during which students are immersed in the English language, but more importantly, in the Bible! Each term, volunteers come from the U.S. and Canada to teach English and the Bible. English4Life is full of opportunities for evangelism and discipleship. We use English as a bridge to invest in our students' lives for eternity. Living in a Christian community surrounded by native English speakers gives our students the opportunity to truly learn the English language like never before. Being a teacher at English4Life is truly a rewarding experience, as you will get to know your students and invest in them personally through morning Bible study, conversations at meal times, various English activities inside and outside of class, and so much more.

Strategy

Our main ministry goals are to reach Polish youth with the Gospel and to disciple and train them to serve in the local church as well as reach others with the Gospel of Christ. We try to create a unique community which strives together toward these goals. It takes a creative and talented group of staff and interns to make it all happen and we rejoice together as we see God working in peoples' lives. WOL Poland is truly a place where you can develop your talents and gain experience in Christian ministry as you serve alongside of our team.

Travel

Our staff will pick you up from WAW - Warsaw Chopin Airport in Warsaw, Poland which is located just over an hour away from our property. Teachers may choose to self-pay to cover flight costs or they may raise additional support to cover these costs.

Housing

Teachers will stay in high-quality dormitory-style housing on the Word of Life Poland property with Wi-Fi and heating. We also have apartment-style housing with a private bathroom available on property for married couples or individuals who desire more privacy, depending on current room availability and ministry needs.

Transportation

For transportation to/from the airport, to the grocery store, and to church, WOL will provide transportation. Only WOL full-time staff may operate WOL vehicles, but volunteers may get an International Driver’s Permit (https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html) and rent a vehicle in Poland if they would like. Poland’s public transportation system is very adequate, however, with buses and trams which are convenient to use for any personal travel needs as well.

Food

During the E4L term, meals are provided Monday supper-Friday lunch by our kitchen staff on property. Meal times are wonderful times to connect with students and other staff members! Teachers will also have access to a shared, community kitchen to prepare their own meals on weekends.

Visa

In Poland it is not necessary to obtain a visa for visits to Poland that are less than 90 days. Volunteers who wish to stay in Poland for longer than 90 days will need to apply for a Temporary Residency Permit, which they can apply for once in Poland. For stays shorter than 90 days, you will only need a valid US Passport (Valid 3 months after the date of your return).

What to Bring

Bring adequate clothing appropriate for the season! (Winter can reach lows of 0°- 5°F and summer can reach highs of around 85°- 90°F.)
Other items you should bring: Any medicines used on a regular basis, an unlocked phone (we can get a SIM card fairly cheaply for your stay here), headphones which connect to your phone for English translation during church services, US--> EU plug adapter
What not to bring: You do not need to bring a towel or bedding, as we will provide this, as well as a hairdryer

We are located only 10 minutes away (by car) from the center of Zgierz, where you can also buy most of the things mentioned above and other things such as personal hygiene items if needed. (We are about a 25 minute drive away from an even larger city, Lódz.)

Dress Code

Class dress is casual, yet professional. In general, Europeans dress in a more "put together" way than the majority of Americans. We ask volunteers to dress in a way that honors God.
For further information or questions about dress code, please contact us at info@english4life.pl!

Qualifications

1. Teachers should have some experience and a passion for teaching and discipleship.
Teaching experience could be in the form of formal school education, tutoring, teaching Sunday School, or even leading small groups. (Class sizes at E4L are usually between 4-6 students.)

2. A background in teaching ESL / EFL is beneficial but not necessary. We provide training for E4L teachers and many resources to help them feel equipped to teach, including pre-field online TEFL training when necessary.

Financial Information

We ask volunteers to contribute $1500 to cover the cost of their stay in Poland. These costs will cover your housing, meals, transportation in Poland, and tourism in our city, Lódz. If you desire, you will have the opportunity to raise financial support to cover the cost of your ministry and airfare.
Additional costs include items such as airfare and insurance, and will depend on length of stay and roles held by volunteers. We would love to talk with you about your personal needs and what it would take for you to come to Poland. If raising financial support for missions is new to you, let us know!
