Location Information
Venezuela, a country of striking natural beauty ranging from the snow-capped Andean peaks in the west, through the Amazonian jungles in the south, to the beaches of the north, is among the most highly urbanized countries in Latin America. It also has one of the largest known oil deposits in the world as well as huge quantities of coal, iron ore, bauxite and gold. Yet up to 85% of Venezuelans live in poverty in shantytowns, the most infamous of which sprawl over the hillsides around the capital, Caracas. Venezuela covers 912,050 sq km, slightly bigger than twice the size of California, and is home to about 27 million people, of whom 96% are Roman Catholic.
