Ministry Description

I will be going to Belem near the end of January to serve there for a year with their youth programs team ministering to the river people, schools, churches, Bible clubs, and camps. I also plan to study online during my time there so I can gather more tools for future ministries. My hope is that this will be a time of serving in this community while getting ministry experience and education. I am so excited to be a part of what He is doing in this place!

About Debora

I was born in Brazil, both of my parents are Brazilians from Rio de Janeiro. But when I was only 3 years old we moved to West Africa, where I grew up as a missionary kid so that my parents could fulfill their calling to serve full time through careers in the medical field and share the gospel in this African country. My parents taught me about Jesus and the Bible from a young age, and I chose to follow Jesus as a little girl. I have wanted to obey Him and know Him better for as long as I can remember, I believe I was gifted with a strong faith. But growing up as a missionary kid in a country that is 90% Islamic made it so that I often had to choose between fitting in and doing what I believed was right in the eyes of God. Although I did want to walk in His ways, I struggled a lot with this in my teenage years. I am thankful that God placed people in my life, especially other missionaries and missionary kids who helped me to better understand the power and significance of the gospel and what it meant for me to be a Christian, not just a girl from a Christian family. We then moved to the USA for 3 years after 11 years in Africa, which was a hard transition but one that brought immense growth to my faith and passion for missions. There I understood that the great commission applied to me as well, and I dedicated my life to serving God. I decided to go to Bible School in Hungary, where I had gone on a mission trip the previous year, to get a better foundation for my faith. I am taking steps to find a place for me to serve long term, but God has been showing me that the journey is part of his purpose, and I am so thankful for all that He has done in and through me through the years as I served Him, just as a "normal Christian girl". Even though I am heading in the direction of becoming an "official missionary," one of the most valuable lessons God has taught me through the years is that this is not a title I need in order to fulfill the calling of making disciples that He has called me to! My desire is simply to continually follow Him, wherever He leads and whatever He asks of me, for all the days of my life.

Life Verse

Acts 20:24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
