Laura Ballejos

Missionary to Argentina

Ministry Description

I am a Spanish teacher in the Bilingual Bible Program in Word of Life. Each year, we welcome around 40 American and Canadian students who want to learn Spanish and God’s Word. God does great things in the lives of these young people – challenging them to prepare themselves in Spanish and Biblically, with the objective of reaching Hispanics in their countries.

The Lord gives me the responsibility of sharing the Word of God in women’s services and conferences. The Lord ahs privileged me with trials and daily comfort with the purpose of consoling and challenging others through His Word, how immense is His Grace!

I am part of a wonderful church, where I go every weekend, where I can share in the fellowship with church members and service to the Lord. What a blessing it is to be part of God’s family!

About Laura

When I was a child, I had the privilege of knowing Christ as my personal Savior, growing up in a wonderful church that cultivated in me a great desire to know His word, to serve God and people with a willing heart and do all that He would bring before me.

While serving the Lord I met Marcelo, and during our courtship the Lord put a special burden on our heart for missions work and a grand desire to more deeply study His Word.

On April 26, 1986 we were married and the next year we were given the privilege of studying at the Word of Life Bible Institute for four years. At the same time, we began serving together as a couple, doing visitation, evangelism, and discipleship, which eventually led us and some brothers and sisters in the Lord to plant a church, called the Church of Libertad street in Lanus. Throughout this time, the Lord gave us the gift of having two children, giving us a beautiful family to serve Him.

During a service, one of our professors showed us the needs for the young people in Argentina and for workers. In that moment, we felt the Lord touching our hearts, calling us to serve Him full-time as missionaries. That is how we finished studying and we started the ministry for Word of Life in the southern metro area of Buenos Aires in Bible Clubs.

Throughout sixteen years, we had the privilege of serving in more than 30 churches through Bible Clubs for teens and young adults, starting the program of Bible Clubs for single adults as well. This ministry provides tools to the local church for their effective ministry to the youth. The Lord also placed the kids of the streets of Plaza Once on our heart. Many received Christ as the Savior during our visits, in camps, or through the support of Samaritan’s Purse. Some even went to rehabilitation centers and one is currently studying in the Bible Institute.

God gave me the honor of serving for more than 20 years by the side of a great servant of God that my husband was. He suffered from colon cancer in 2005, and went into remission. I was also diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2009, and am in remission and doing routine tests. On September 6th, 2011, God in His perfect will decided to take Marcelo into His presence after a relapse of the colon cancer, and that started a new stage in our lives and ministry. We had always served together, and I know that Marcelo does it from Heaven, and I serve here, accompanied by hand and grace of the Lord.

My life has changed, but not my love for the Lord and the missionary calling that He put in us more than twenty years, which was seen even stronger in Marcelo’s passing. Our greatest desire is to continue with the legacy that Marcelo left us. Before he passed away, he said, “It doesn’t matter what happens to me, just don’t stop loving God, serving God, because all that I cannot do for Him, you all have to do.” That is how we want to honor his life, and above all honor and glorify God in everything.

Although it is a difficult and painful time because of his absence, I can say that thanks to the Lord, my greatest comfort has been serving Him and being involved in His work.
