My name is Michael Kilbride, Word of Life Local Church Missionary to Central Virginia.
My passion is to reach today's youth through evangelism, discipleship, and leadership training. Our goal is to help local churches develop vibrant youth ministries.
I came to know the Lord in August of 2000.
Before I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ, I tried to live my life as good as I could to try to please God and man. I was raised thinking that you had to be good to get to heaven. After the divorce of my parents, my mom was searching for answers to life, but she was no longer allowed to go to the Catholic church due to excommunication for divorce. She was introduced to Faith Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE by a man at her work. Many of her questions were answered by the sermons of the Senior Pastor, Dr. George Nichols. She soon came to trust in Christ as her Savior and then married that man at her work, Dennis Winter, who is now my step-dad. They began inviting me to church, and, despite my distaste for church, I went with them. I was soon invited to AWANA where I heard the gospel for the first time. I was counseled after an invitation, but I did not actually make a decision for Christ that night. A few months later, in August of 2000, I was laying in my bed trying to go to sleep, and the Holy Spirit convicted me of my sin and I trusted Christ as my Savior then and there.
Ever since that point in my life, God has been faithful in testing and trying my faith to grow me into a man of God. The "good" things that I do now are not for salvation or to make God look at me in a better light, but because I know that it is the best that God has for me and it is my natural response in fellowship with God.
I base my salvation from Ephesians 2:8-9 which says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God. Not of works, so that no man may boast."
Proverbs 16:9 - A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
