Our missionaries are normal people from all walks of life who have dedicated their lives to serving and following Jesus wherever He calls them. Want to meet them? Check out our Missionary Directory.
During my time in Taiwan, I will be working at Word of Life’s School of Youth Ministries in English (SYME). SYME is a fully-immersive English program where Taiwanese students, usually college-aged, can study English and the Bible. Many of the unsaved students who come primarily to learn English end up making professions of faith and growing immensely in their relationships with the Lord. I will have the privilege of teaching their English and Bible classes!
Growing up, I was blessed to have a father who loved the Lord and who taught my family and I about Him. Nevertheless, I struggled with a lot of doubts about my salvation. I would repeatedly pray the sinner’s prayer, asking Jesus to “come into my heart”.
I believe that I made my faith my own when I was around 12 years old. During that summer, I spent several weeks as a camper on the Word of Life Island, a Christian teen camp in the Adirondacks. I saw something different in my counselors there—a passion for God and a love for others. During one of the Bible meetings, I heard the Gospel presented in a clear and simple way and decided to place my trust in Jesus once and for all.
Since then, God has helped me to grow in my faith. I began spending daily time in my Bible and in prayer. Additionally, the ministry of Word of Life was instrumental in my spiritual growth, through both their camps and college program.
During my second year of Bible study at Word of Life, I learned about an area of the world where people have little to no access to the Gospel. They most likely will not even cross paths with a Christian during their lifetimes. This area is called the 10/40 window, which encompasses much of North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. I want to be used by God to reach people in this area of the world, and after much prayer, I believe that participating in Word of Life’s Cross Cultural Internship (CCI) Program of two years in Taiwan will be a good first step for me!
