Ministry Description

In South Africa, we were serving with the Discipleship Training Center ( DTC) in discipling and doing one on one life with the youth enrolled in the program. Fortunate assists with the online administration and discipleship of young ladies. Yonah works with the Local Church Ministry ( LCM) in training youth leaders.

As we head to Zimbabwe, we plan to work towards establishing the ministry of Word of Life by coming alongside churches in reaching young people in Harare and beyond.

About Yonna

MY TESTIMONY

Hi there, I am Yonah Oyugi. Growing up I went to church and considered myself a good boy even though deep down I knew I was distant with God because I didn’t have a relationship with Him.

In August of 2005, I gave my life to Christ after the gospel was presented and my heart got convicted of my sin. I realized that only Jesus can bring me closer to God and I believed. After salvation, there were no sudden changes in my life. It was in 2007 at a student’s camp, where I was assured of my salvation and I dedicated my life to Christ. I understood that I was a sinner and it’s only through God’s grace that I can be saved. I learned about God’s love and how he demonstrated it by sending his only Son, Jesus Christ to die for me.

In 2013, my brother told me about the starting of Word of Life Africa Bible Institute (WOLABI). I was eager to join but I did not want to go to study again. After all, I was already working and getting a good salary. I knew studying would mean no payment. Not long after that at work, my boss who happened to be a Muslim argued with me over certain aspects of the Bible. I could not clearly explain the scriptures and that made me realize I didn’t know the Bible. This was when I made the decision to resign from my job, and accept to go and study God’s Word for a year which I am grateful I did.

Due to being daily exposed to God’s Word, my walk with God grew. I grew to love his Word as I saw it come alive in a more practical way in my life. I developed a desire to share what I was learning to others. It was a great environment, as I was being discipled and having accountability partners. My naïve attitude of coming to the BI to prove God to unbelievers changed as I realized God doesn’t need to be defended. After that year, I knew that God was calling me into fulltime ministry so I can gently and patiently point others to Him. I was given an opportunity to serve at the Bible Institute as a discipleship coordinator (DC) for the male students where I served for three years. During my time as a DC, I was accepted as a missionary with WOL Uganda.

In my last year at the BI, God sent me my wife. She came as a student. Shortly after, I joined the National Theological College & Graduate School (NTCGS). I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to be exposed to the Word of God so I may grow deeper in His word. My desire is to grow in grace and the knowledge of God together with my wife and be able to teach and preach God’s word effectively.

Fortunate got married in April 2019 and we seek to serve the Lord together. Our plan is to serve in South Africa.

About Fortunate

MY LIFE BEFORE TRUSTING CHRIST…

I grew up in a Christian home in Zimbabwe, for so many years I tried to earn salvation by my own works (praying, fasting and by being a good person) but all to no avail. All this satisfied for a while but couldn’t stand the test of time. I was saved at the age of about 10 when I realized I could not be good enough or do enough good deeds. Still, I continued practicing these religious activities I still knew that something was missing. I thought of how much I was lost in religion, having a form of godliness but without a real relationship with the Lord. In 2009 I rededicated my life to the Lord and in 2013 I was privileged to attend a one year Bible College with Berean Bible Institute in South Africa (BBISA) in association with the Word of Life Discipleship Training Center (DTC) in South Africa.

HOW MY LIFE HAS CHANGED.

That year the Lord graciously changed my worldview as I learned about God’s character and my relationship with Him grew. By God’s grace after a year of intense Bible study, I accepted the offer to intern with WOLSA for the next year. During my internship, the Lord grew my heart for the ministry. I came to agree with Paul in his letter to the Romans when he said, “How, then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (10:14).This verse has been my conviction and now I desire to impact the children, teens, young girls and ladies with the gospel of Christ. I came back in 2015 to become a Word Of Life South Africa staff missionary. In 2016-17, I was able to further my studies at Word Of Life Africa Bible Institute (WOLABI), where I met my husband and I am thankful for His continued guidance. My goal is to help people move from religion into a deeper meaningful relationship with our Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
